URSULA - The Narrative

(Intro)

(Chorus Together)
Do I fit the narrative?
Do I fit the norm?
In this modern day society
I’m often ignored
Is my identity not enough?
Are my body and thoughts too foreign?
In this modern day society
I’m often ignored

(Verse Noëlla)
There’s a battle going on
inside my mind
I’m not enough
And too much
at the same time
I just wanna exist
in this life of mine
They don’t want me to be part
Of their storyline

Our publication consists out of a song 'The Narrative' and a zine 'I see that I see what you don't see'.

(Verse Cheyenne)
Assimilate or segregate are questions I often ask myself
Why conform to a society
that neglects the feelings of the ‘other’
Is inequality ever gonna end?
Or all we just gonna pretend,
that being tolerant does not reduce ones respect?

(Chorus Together)
Do I fit the narrative?
Do I fit the norm?
In this modern day society
I’m often ignored
Is my identity not enough?
Are my body and thoughts too foreign?
In this modern day society
I’m often ignored

(Verse Karlijn)
I see that I see what you don’t see
But it’s not just about you or me
Its about all the people
who dont feel
That this power structure’s impact is real

(Verse Cheyenne)
The dominant narrative is often considered as
a universal experience
And leaves ‘the other’ wondering where to fit in
Trying to be seen or heard gives an emotional burden
Which eventually will lead to conforming to the dominant group or rejecting it

(Chorus Together) X2
Do I fit the narrative?
Do I fit the norm?
In this modern day society
I’m often ignored
Is my identity not enough?
Are my body and thoughts too foreign?
In this modern day society
I’m often ignored

Publication description
Inspiration for my verse.
I feel like I don’t fit in, I oftend find myself in spaces where I don’t belong or feel unwanted. Several times at the two studies I did at WDKA, I had to explain why it’s not okay to call me an n- word instead of calling me by my name and people even got mad about it. I got treated like trash by overworked teachers and became the black sheep of the class. My class noticed it, but they chose to not interfere. I started to think about these experiences when I was writing lyrics.
